Assembly Minutes, February 26, 2009

Draft by Kathy Sweeton-Windsor

Assembly Meeting February 26, 2009, OLCH, 6:30-8:30pm

Present: David B, Bill E, Christina B, Kathy S, John H (arrived at 7pm)

Discussion:

1) Financial Update - $115 deposited – balance of about $155 when the water bill clears. Kathy will be depositing $15 + $150 = $165 so the bank balance will be about $320 late on Monday. NA has not paid Christina in quite a while. (Kristin needs to also let us know if she was given any ‘rent’.) Christina will ask NA if they can get caught up on the back ‘rent’and/or pay some ahead.

2) HIGH SCHOOL PARTY - $150 Income - The Brown School BrickHouse party was approved by the Assembly. Christina deposited the $115 from the Silent Auction and Kathy will deposit her $15 + $150 for the Brown School Party. Kathy will staff the party with friends and/or BH members are invited to help supervise the 11th graders.

3) Donors for the BIG LOVE DINNER – Christina brought notes for the donors and the attendees signed the cards. Christina will add the tax statement and deliver.

4) Out Reach/Fundraising possibilities include Martin Luther King Walk on April 4. Louisville Metro Democrats will be having a transportation forum on March 11 which David will be attending – maybe asking for a donation in conjunction with the Puffin Grant. (The BrickHouse status with the state appears to be in arrears. John H has committed to resolving the problem in a timely fashion. ) (In the meantime, the Puffin Grant money has been added to the Creative Minds Union account instead.) All attendees were asked to talk to 5 strangers. David suggested that only Old Louisville be targeted. I recommended that each individual decide what works best. Bill is concerned about approaching women and recommended that men have a woman with them when going to strange houses. Bill and I will start this process on Monday and hope others will also find time. ALL ADDRESSES of those talked to need to be written and forwarded to Kathy to allow a Master List of who has been canvassed.

5) Fundraising - Good potential neighborhood partners would be (financially healthy) churches, neighborhood organizations, individuals – David will list some and email the assembly/board. Another networking opportunity is the Old Louisville Neighborhood Association which meets the last Tuesday of the month at the Old Louisville Information Center. BrickHouse needs to send some ambassadors.

6) Brick House Open Hours - No one in the group could commit to spending time at the building including the Pot Luck. This is a problem but we will address later. One hope is for Bill to host an Art Class on Saturdays – see discussion later.

7) Mission and Vision of the Collectives of Attendees – Each attendee described the Collective they were involved with and future plans:

Bill E:

  • LIBRARY COLLECTIVE – Inventory the books – and create a list of permanent books/ children’s books and books for sale. Christina would like to make a small neighborhood library with a computer with internet service in addition to books. Christina and Bill plan for the Library Collective to become active in April.
  • ART COLLECTIVE – Bill would like to offer art lessons to Young (and Old) in the summer, teaching more classical art styles. He will need a female to assist him for legal purposes. The classes may be provided for a suggested donation of $2-$5 per class or a $15-$25 costs per month. The fees can include some supplies and refreshments.

Christina B:

  • LIBRARY COLLECTIVE – Catalogue the Children’s area books, offer Book Sales, Host monthly local Author Sessions – such as Micheal Jones to read and sign their books, work with Bill.
  • GARDEN COLLECTIVE – Whitt and BH have been asked to have BrickHouse involved with Smoketown Neighborhood Garden. Plant flowers in the bedding areas and removed the falling wall. This will allow space for a bike rack and future handicap ramp. Bricks are to be reused. Kathy can probably take some of the dirt for disposal. Brightside has grants (2) which BH should apply for. Christina will contact Brian of the Urban Gardeners to see if they would like to partner with us. She will also talk to the 2nd Street sisters, Mary and Margaret about BH gardening projects.

David B:

  • GREEN/ SUSTAINABLE/ TRANSPORTATION COLLECTIVE – David will be attending a upcoming meeting with the Metro Democrats where the Spaghetti Junction/Bridges Project will be discussed. It was proposed that maybe John should bring the Radio Collective equipment to record the discussions (Likely to be lively)! May seek additional dollars to add to the Puffin Grant effort. July 10-12th will be the ForeCastle Festival where the Puffin Grant demonstration project will be videotaped. (BH may want to be involved in tabling at this also.) Is also in dialogue with Dr Cunningham of Speed School exploring Green Renovation ideas with them. First step will probably be analysis and scoping the project needs (BH building needs). He will report more as the details are worked out. Bill mentioned that BATHROOMS are the most important item to invest in improvements – as businesses are much more likely to not attract return customers if they are substandard. BH needs to renovate/ enhance the bathrooms base on this concept! The second toilet needs to be installed before the Brown School Party March 21st. A contractor will coming by to do the work this coming week if all goes well.

John H:

  • RADIO COLLECTIVE – Get the radio station broadcasting, need more producers of shows, would like to expand into video production in addition to audio, explore broadcasting opportunities beyond the Fern Creek neighborhood, attend the March 11th Transportation meeting with the Louisville Metro Democrats to record the proceedings, joint venture with the Noize Collective to provide air time for some of the bands.
  • INTELLECTUAL COLLECTIVE – (Think Tank?) – host discussion groups with topics of current affairs and philosophy. Bill E would also like to be involved with this. (Secretary note: Would this be a good activity for Thursday of the Birthday Bash?)

Fundraising Ideas –

  1. Birthday Bash – Have a Taste of Louisville Dinner on Friday night, have a (Noize) concert on Saturday night, other activities to be determined if volunteers provide email feedback to Assembly, Christina.
  2. Collect the scrap metal from the Brick House for some income
  3. Have a Book Sale
  4. Bizarre Bazaar/ Yard Sale
  5. Tabling – including 1st and last Friday Trolley Hop events, spring and summer Festivals (including Forecastle Festival), MAKE A BRICK HOUSE BAKED GOOD SPECIALITY? such as fudge bricks?
  6. Door to Door Out Reach – Kathy and Bill will start this process on Monday (take Statements of Support with us)
  7. Roadway Collections – the insurance is now at $500,000 and the $50 license fee needs to be paid with the proper paper work. John and Bill to work on this. This may also require filing the State’s Annual report which has lapsed. John (and Bill) will be resolving this soon.
  8. Approach donors/partners such as churches, business (Action Loan?).
  9. Have a T-shirt with BrickHouse logo for the Out Reach effort to show cohesion and provide a ‘professional’ appearance. Christina has some ideas of how to economically do this and Kathy will also investigate prices. Color of T-shirt? Bill E recommends light blue, Kathy recommended yellow. Other opinions? A vote?
  10. Have a BrickHouse Banner made/donated. Christina to look into. Bill can print a 19”x? length banner on his printer economically also.
  11. Attend the Old Louisville Neighborhood Association meetings on the last Tuesday of each month. Kathy will plan to do this. A good way to meet the neighbors. (John Paul of the OLNC is putting together an Old Louisville Neighborhood message/ information board for events – good place to advertise our activities.)

KRISTIN'S ASSEMBLY ADDENDUM NOTES IN ABSTENTIA ANNOUNCEMENT

DUE TO THE JUNK PICK UP OPPORTUNITY...CAN WE ALL AGREE UPON A WORK DAY??? BUILDING RECLAMATION??

JUNK WEEK IS THIS WEEK AND ALL ITEMS NEED TO BE CURBED SUCH AS THE MOLDY BLUE COUCH AND ANY MOLDY BOOK SHELVES... ALSO ALL BAGS OF DRYWALL AND CEILING TILES LEFT BEHIND BY RENOVATION... NOIZE FOLK NEED TO COMMUNICATE WITH BIKES FOLK ABOUT THE BIKES IN THE CORNER SPACE... BIKES MAY NEED HELP IN THE BASEMENT TO HAUL THINGS OUT FOR JUNK DAY...

AGENDA FOR DISCUSSION including discussion:

1) Financial Update - KRISTIN ADDS: FUNDS ARE BEING ALLOCATED FOR US BY FIRST UNITARIAN CHURCH WOMENS ALLIANCE AND ALL PAPERWORK IS DONE.... AMOUNT FOR GENERAL FUNDS WILL BE 1/4 OR 1/3rd OF TOTAL DONATED ... THESE FUNDS HAVE BEEN EARMARKED FOR ARTS ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATED WITH OUR LOCAL YOUTH ESPECIALLY STUDENTS FROM ENGELHARDT ELEMENTARY SO THAT WE CAN SHARE CLAY WORK/GARDENING/AND ECLECTIC YOGA AND DANCE FOR ALL AGES... EARTH MAMAS/KYWAC ARE WILLING TO TASK OUT SOME OF THESE ACTIVITIES

I FORSEE THAT THIS MONEY CAN BE ASSOCIATED WITH BILL'S ART CLASSES ON SATURDAY WHICH I AM WILLING TO ATTEND AND TO OUTREACH/ORGANIZE WITH BILL AS BUDGETARY AND CALENDAR TASKS TO BE REPORTED TO ASSEMBLY AND BOARD APPROVED

I AM WILLING TO FORWARD THE BUILDING BEING OPEN ON SUNDAYS FROM 2-5PM AS A PART OF THE OPEN STUDIO TIME THAT I HAVE COMMITTED TO BUT THE POTLUCK IS A COMMUNITY WIDE EVENT THAT WOULD BEST BE SPONSORED BY A DIFFERENT COLLECTIVE EACH WEEK AS A PART OF OUTREACH FOR EACH COLLECTIVE ON THE REGULAR BASIS... I WOULD LIKE TO CONSIDER THIS PROPOSAL TO NEXT ASSEMBLY AS A PART OF EACH COLLECTIVE BEING ACCOUNTABLE FOR MEETING TIMES AND BEING ASSOCIATED WITH AN OFFICIAL OUTREACH PLAN

KRIS PHILIPP AND I WILL BE WORKING ON THE OTHER PORTION OF THE ARTS AGENDA WHICH WILL LEAD TO MOSAIC AND SIGN PROCESS... MOSAIC DESIGNS FOR INSTALLATION ON EXTERIOR OF BUILDING WILL BE BROUGHT TO BOARD AND APPROVED WITH TNZD FOLK

2) HIGH SCHOOL PARTY - Kathy will staff the party with friends and/or BH members are invited to help supervise the 11th graders.

KRISTIN ADDS: BUILDING COMMITTEE NEEDS TO SET A TIME TO MEET TO PREPARE THE DETAILS OF EGRESS AND ALSO TO ORGANIZE A FACILITATOR TRAINING WHICH PREPARES APPROPRIATE STAFFING FOR EVENTS AS WELL AS MAINTAINS SPECIFIC SYSTEMS AND STANDARDS OF CONDITIONAL USE. COLLECTIVES ARE REQUESTED TO SEND A MEMBER TO THE MEETING FOR THE PURPOSE OF INPUT AND INSTRUCTION ASSOCIATED WITH RESPECTING RESERVED SPACES

3) Donors for the BIG LOVE DINNER – K: I WOULD LIKE A LIST OF WHO THE CARDS WENT TO SINCE I AM CERTAIN THAT I WILL NEED TO SEND CARDS AND FOLLOW UP ON MY CONTACTS WHO MAY OR MAY NOT BE ON THIS LIST. I DIDNT GET TO SIGN THE CARD AND AM OK WITH THE IDEA BUT WILL NEED TO DO MY OWN ... NEXT TIME MAYBE WE CAN HAVE THE CARDS PLACED FOR SIGNING AT THE EVENT... OR READY AS THE DONATION OFFER IS MADE AND HAVE A ROUND OF SIGNATURES BEFORE THE EVENT ONLY TO SEND ALL CARDS OUT AFTER THE EVENT... GREAT IDEAS+GOOD WORK= :D

4) Out Reach/Fundraising possibilities include Martin Luther King Walk on April 4.

K: M THE VOLUNTEERS AT MY SCHOOL WHICH I WOULD LIKE TO SEE MARCH TOGETHER REPRESENTING SERVICE FOR PEACE THROUGH THE BRICKHOUSE... I AM THINKING ABOUT MAKING SIGNS AT ONE OF OUR ARTS WORKSHOPS... I HAVE LEAD SUCH THINGS WITH YOUTH AT KY ALLIANCE BEFORE AND ITS QUITE EFFECTIVE... NOT SURE OF LOCATION ISSUES BUT IT MAY TAKE SOME TARC TICKETS TO ASSEMBLE THE KIDS. I DONT KNOW IF THIS HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH FUNDRAISING WHAT SO EVER...

Louisville Metro Democrats will be having a transportation forum on March 11 which David wil l be attending – maybe asking for a donation in conjunction with the Puffin Grant.

K: PUFFIN GRANT WILL NEED AN ACTUAL BUDGET REVISION DUE TO UNFUNDED PORTIONS AND LIMITED TIME FRAME... FORECASTLE TABLING AND OUTREACH DIALOGUE BEGINS HERE IF ANYONE WOULD CARE TO BE A PART OF THE EVENT... BRYAN, DAVID AND MYSELF WILL MEET ON THE MATTER

(The BrickHouse status with the state appears to be in arrears.

HIGHLANDS IS A GREAT PLACE TO OUTREACH FOR BRICK HOUSE DUE TO HISTORIC SUPPORT OF OUR ORGANIZATION... GOING OUT AND OFFERING LIGHT YARD WORK IN EXCHANGE FOR A DONATION COULD ALSO WORK FOR A VOLUNTEER GROUP WILLING TO DO A ONE DAY DRIVE IN A NEIGHBORHOOD... I LIKE THIS IDEA BETTER THAN WORKING STOPLIGHTS AND STANDING IN THE STREET WITH A BUCKET PERSONALLY SPEAKING

I recommended that each individual decide what works best. \ I FIND THIS A GREAT IDEA AND I WOULD LIKE TO PARTNER WITH A FEMALE FOR OLD LOUISVILLE AREA IN THE TROLLEY TOWN NEIGHBORHOOD...

ALL ADDRESSES of those talked to need to be written and forwarded to Kathy to allow a Master List of who has been canvassed. I HAVE A SPECIFIC LIST WORKING WHICH IS A 'ONCE A MONTH LIST OF FOLKS WHO ARE THANKED AND GIVEN UPDATES OF HOW THEIR MONEY IS APPLIED AS A PART OF REPORTING MY GRANT WORK. DONORS ARE ON THIS LIST AND SOME STATEMENT OF SUPPORT FOLKS BUT I HAVE YET TO BEGIN MAILINGS...

5) Fundraising

  • Good potential neighborhood partners would be (financially healthy) churches, neighborhood organizations, individuals – David will list some and email the assembly/board.

Another networking opportunity is the Old Louisville Neighborhood Association which meets the last. BrickHouse needs to send some ambassadors. OUR FARMER SANDEE IS READY TO WORK ON THE FRIENDS OF OLD LOUISVILLE PACKAGE WHICH ENCOURAGES KIDS AND FAMILY GARDENERS AS AN OPTION FOR THE CENTRAL PARK DEVELOPMENT TO COUNTERBALANCE THE TENNIS COURT FLURRY.

Fundraising Ideas

a. Birthday Bash – Have a Taste of Louisville Dinner on Friday night, have a (Noize) concert on Saturday night, other activities to be determined if volunteers provide email feedback to Assembly, Christina.

b. Collect the scrap metal from the Brick House for some income... NOT WORTH GAS TO HAUL c. Have a Book Sale WHY NOT HAVE A BOOK SALE DURING POTLUCK

d. Bizarre Bazaar/ Yard Sale ... Kristin offers: POOR LIGHTING IS A REAL DRAW BACK HAVING A WORK DAY WOULD MAKE THE SPACE BETTER BUT WE NEED SERIOUSLY BETTER LIGHTING IN THE BACK ROOM BEFORE WE HAVE ANOTHER BIZARRE BAZAAR AT PRESENT... THE BEST WE HAVE EVER MADE AT ONE OF THESE EVENTS IS 50 DOLLARS...

E. Tabling – including 1st and last Friday Trolley Hop events, spring and summer Festivals (including Forecastle Festival), MAKE A BRICK HOUSE BAKED GOOD SPECIALITY? Kristin offers: FIRST OFF, I HAVE MADE SPECIALTY FOOD ITEMS INCLUDING FUDGE BRICKS AND THE FACT IS THIS: Our food issue is that we do not distribute items well and we also do not want to be known as a place with a kitchen right now according to the fire marshall.

SECONDLY I WOULD LIKE TO SEE US BUILD UP COLLECTIVE IDENTITY WHO TABLE ISSUES

Have a T-shirt with BrickHouse logo for the Out Reach effort to show cohesion and provide a ‘professional’ appearance. Christina has some ideas of how to economically do this and Kathy will also investigate prices. Color of T-shirt? Bill E recommends light blue, Kathy recommended yellow. Other opinions? A vote? KRISTIN OFFERS: WE SHOULD USE MULTI-COLORS AND ALLOW PEOPLE TO BRING THEIR OWN SHIRTS AS WELL AS A PART OF OUR SUSTAINABILITY PLATFORM IN EDUCATING PEOPLE TO REDUCE USE... WE CAN TEACH SCREENING IN THE BUILDING WITH RACHEL AND WE HAVE SHIRTS AND SWEATSHIRTS READY FOR PRINTING IN OUR BUILDING ALREADY AND THEY ARE YELLOW AND LIGHT BLUE...

I AM WILLING TO GET THE T-SHIRT IDEA ROLLING WITH RACHEL AND SEE IF SHE WANTS TO WORK THESE EVENTS IN THE SPRING EVEN THOUGH I KNOW SHE PLANS TO BE ELSEWHERE IN THE SUMMER... A UNIFIED T-SHIRT MAKES A MORE LASTING SENSE TO ME AND RACHEL CAN OFFER A 'COLLECTIBLE DESIGN' AS WELL AS A BRICK HOUSE SCREEN AT MEME TECH WHICH CAN BE PRINTED FROM MULTIPLE TIMES IN THE FUTURE

G. Roadway Collections – the insurance is now at $500,000 and the $50 license fee needs to be paid with the proper paper work. John and Bill to work on this. This may also require filing the State’s Annual report which has lapsed. John (and Bill) will be resolving this soon. THIS IS NOT MY IDEA OF PROACTIVE OR DIRECT ACTION AS SUSTAINABILITY... IT IS REACTIONARY AND INDICATES A PASSIVE INFIRMITY ON OUR PART... KIDS WITH CANCER AND LEUKEMIA AND CHURCHES FEEDING HOMELESS DO THIS STUFF... CAN WE AT LEAST GET CONTRACTS FOR UNDERWRITING CONTRACTS PRINTED???

H. Approach donors/partners such as churches, business (Action Loan?)<<< IS THIS WHO WE REALLY WANT TO PARTNER WITH???

KRISTIN OFFERS: I AM ACTIVING WORKING WITH LOUISVILLE ARTS COUNCIL ON THEIR WEB PAGE AT PRESENT AND SEE WHERE THEY HAVE BANNERS ONLINE WHICH MIGHT BE A PART OF OUR UNDERWRITING CONTRACT OPTION WHICH FUNDS MUTUAL ACTIVITIES IN A PARTNERSHIP WITH ARTS COUNCIL... IF WE WORK WITH LOCAL GALLERIES AND VENUES TO PROMOTE THEIR EVENTS THEN I THINK WE ARE FARTHER ALONG... WHAT ABOUT CHARGING A MONTHY MEMBERSHIP TO HAVE ACCESS TO THE PEOPLE WHO CONTACT US AT MYSPACE AND MAKE NOIZE AN INSTANT SHOW FILLER SERVICE FOR LOCAL VENUES?? MONTHY FEE MEANS YOU GET THE EMAIL AND DISCONTINUED FEE MEANS YOU DONT

FURTHERMORE, IF WE FOLLOW UP ON IT IMMEDIATELY WE CAN GET A JUMP ON LOCAL NPR FUNDS DRIVES BY GETTING UNDERWRITERS NOW AND ALSO BY MAKING RADIO A DIRECT ACTION OPPORTUNITY WITH OUR COMMUNITY FOR FOLKS WHO ACTUALLY WANT TO GET INVOLVED AND SUPPORT REAL LOCAL RADIO \\\LETS SPECIFICALLY FOLLOW UP ON PARTNERS WHO WILL BRING CONTENT AND OFFER TO TEACH A SMALL GROUP OF THEIR COMMUNITY RADIO PRODUCTION SO THAT THEY CAN TURN AROUND AND HAVE A SHOW AS WELL AS BECOME UNDERWRITERS OF THEIR PROGRAMMING WHICH SUPPORTS BETTER OUTREACH FOR EACH OF THEIR MEMBERSHIPS... DEVELOP A PACKAGE WHICH ALLOWS THEM TO PAY A ONE TIME START UP FEE FOR THE TRAINING AND THEN OFFER UNDERWRITING SPONSORSHIP AS THEY GET THEIR PRODUCT IN ORDER...

6) Brick House Open Hours - No one in the group could commit to spending time at the building including the Pot Luck. This is a problem but we will address later. One hope is for Bill to host an Art Class on Saturdays – see discussion later

K: I CAN COMMIT TO SPENDING TIME IN THE BUILDING ON SATURDAYS AND SUNDAYS... I BELIEVE WE HAD BETTER START MEETING IN THE BUILDING AND ALSO THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO WANT TO WORK WITH BILL ON ORGANIZING THE LIBRARY.

I REALLY DONT

UNDERSTAND HOW WE CAN HAVE A GARDEN COLLECTIVE IF WE CANT PUT AT LEAST ONE DAY A WEEK TO THE INITIATIVE AND PROCESS OF GARDENING AT THE SITE....

I BELIEVE THAT GREG KING HAS ASKED THAT THE BOARD MEET WITH GRAND MASTER COOK TO SECURE THE BUILDING FOR 1 OR 2 DAYS A WEEK AS MARTIAL ARTS CLASS TIMES... HE WANTED TO RENT SPACE IN THE BUILDING... I CAN CONTACT HIM IF WE ARE READY TO MEET WITH HIM... THIS IS THE TIME TO SECURE REAL PEOPLE AND REAL ACTIVITIES IN OUR BUILDING

7) Mission and Vision of the Collectives

KYWAC & DIY HEALTH COLLECTIVES MEG is currently putting together a spring calendar

K: We are currently in dialogue for classes associated with Engelhardt Elementary and 2 women artists currently working/living in Old Louisville. the class will be a series of activities like a spring camp which teach nutrition and art as a part of learning to do things in a garden and with your own hands... this workshop will be associated with the Public Health and Wellness work that I am developing with Cultivating Communities in West Louisville on Chestnut Street and at the Russell Garden... There is not a timeline in place as of today but it is the goal of the work group to have one in the next week or two

ART COLLECTIVE – Bill would like to offer LET US SET ASIDE TIME TO PLAN THIS NOW! I DO BELIEVE THAT PROMOTION IS ESSENTIAL IN THESE THINGS AND THAT A CALENDAR AND LIST OF SUPPLIES WILL HELP TO ASSURE PARTICIPANTS THAT THE EVENT IS REAL.

Bill E – LIBRARY COLLECTIVE – Inventory the books

CAN WE PLEASE HAVE ONE DAY A WEEK THAT PEOPLE WILL BE ABLE TO WALK INTO THE BUILDING AND HELP PREPARE THE LIBRARY'S STOCK?? A MEMBER OF THE WENCH COLLECTIVE HAS COMMITTED HER TIME TO REVIEW THE ZINE COLLECTION AND HELP ORGANIZE IT/RESTOCK ITEMS IF WE WILL MAKE THE BUILDING AVAILABLE ON A REGULAR BASIS. ITS NOT REALLY FAIR TO HAVE ONLY ONE OR TWO DAYS THAT EVERYONE HAS TO SCHEDULE AROUND WHILE WE OWN SPECIFIC SPACES IN THE BUILDING THAT NO ONE CAN USE... TONY/BRENT/WHIT ARE RETURNING BIKE WORKSHOP HOURS IN APRIL ALSO.

Christina B – LIBRARY COLLECTIVE – Catalogue the Children’s area books K: ITS MY BELIEF THAT THE BOOKS OF THE KIDS SECTION BEING CATALOGUED MAY NOT BE AS IMPORTANT AS CLEANING OUT OR ORGANIZING THE PUPPET STAGE AREA AND MAKING A PLACE FOR EVERYTHING IN THERE SO WHEN IT IS USED THEN IT CAN BE PUT UP AGAIN IN THAT PLACE... IF WE NEED TO GET RID OF THINGS THEN DO SO ON JUNK DAY THIS WEEK.

  • GARDEN COLLECTIVE –

MY ASSESSEMENT OF USING THE RAISED BED IS THAT WE NEED TO FINISH PLANNING THE EXTERIOR RENOVATION AND PAINTING PLAN THEN GET THE GARDEN IN PLACE... MULCH IS READY AND WAITING...

David B – GREEN/ SUSTAINABLE/ TRANSPORTATION COLLECTIVE –

Is also in dialogue with Dr Cunningham of Speed School exploring Green Renovation ideas with them. First step will probably be analysis and scoping the project needs (BH building needs). He will report more as the details are worked out.

IT IS WORTH THE EFFORT TO FIGURE OUT IF SIPS BOARDS CAN BE USED ON EXTERIOR BEFORE WE PAINT .... BUILDING COMMITTEE NEEDS A PLANNING TIME AND INPUT FROM COLLECTIVES IN ADVANCE REGARDING THE USE OF THEIR SPACE OR PLANS FOR USING PORTIONS OF THE BUILDING AS ACTIVITY AREAS

Bill mentioned that BATHROOMS

WE ARE ALSO IN NEED OF A MEETING WITH BRUCE COHEN WORKERS TO DETERMINE HOW OUR DRAINING TO THE STREET ACTUALLY FLOWS FROM THE BUILDING... THEY SAID THEY COULDNT DETERMINE SUCH THINGS UNTIL WE HAVE RUNNING WATER... I THINK WE NEED TO SECURE THE SERVICE OF ANOTHER PLUMBER TO REPAIR WATER LINES IN CEILING SO THAT THE LEAK STOPS...

PROPOSAL TO THE BOARD: IF THERE IS AN EMERGENCY OR NECESSITY ASSOCIATED WITH THE BRICK HOUSE PROPERTIES THEN THE APPROPRIATE COLLECTIVE/COMMITTEE SHOULD BE NOTIFIED IN WRITING IF AN INCIDENCE HAS OCCURRED;

1. PHONE CALLS TO EXECUTIVE MEMBERS WILL SUFFICE TO ADDRESS IMMEDIATE DECISION OR REPARATION BUT ONLY APPROVED OR LICENSED INDIVIDUALS/COMPANIES WHO ARE PEOPLE TRAINED IN SPECIFIC BOARD APPROVED POLICY AND ACTION /ASKS SUCH AS PLUMBING AND/OR CARPENTRY SHOULD BE GIVEN THE RIGHT OF WAY AND RESPONSIBILITY TO FORWARD EXPENDITURES OR EFFORTS WHICH MAY LEAD TO FURTHER DAMAGE.

2 SPECIFIC INCIDENCES IN THE PAST 3 MONTHS LEAD ME TO QUESTION IF INDIVIDUALS SHOULD TRY TO MAKE REPAIRS OR EXPERIMENT WITH CONDITIONS SUCH AS TURNING THE WATER BACK ON OR CHOOSING NOT TO PLACE ANTI-FREEZE POLICY INTO EFFECT.... WE HAVE A FEW METHODS WHICH WILL PREVENT FURTHER PROPERTY DAMAGE AND I DO BELIEVE THIS PROPOSAL WILL EFFECT FURTHER PREVENTATIVE MEASURES... RIGHT NOW WE NEED A SERIOUS CLEAN UP OF LIBRARY AGAIN BECAUSE ONCE WATER IS RELEASED AS A PART OF EXPERIMENTING WITH SOLUTIONS THEN IT MUST BE CLEANED UP.

  • INTELLECTUAL COLLECTIVE – (Think Tank?) – host discussion groups with topics of current affairs and philosophy. Bill E would also like to be involved with this. (Secretary note: Would this be a good activity for Thursday of the Birthday Bash?)

10. Have a BrickHouse Banner made/donated. Christina to look into. Bill can print a 19”x? length banner on his printer economically also. LETS CLEAN UP THE BRICKHOUSE FIRST...

11. Attend the Old Louisville Neighborhood Association meetings on the last Tuesday of each month. Kathy will plan to do this. A good way to meet the neighbors. (John Paul of the OLNC is putting together an Old Louisville Neighborhood message/ information board for events – good place to advertise our activities.) THANK YOU ... ITS A GREAT IDEA

A couple of corrections to Feb. 26 assembly minutes:

  • I did not propose creating an "Intellectual Collective." I said I was interested in holding more events around speakers, panels, and discussions in order to make the organization a bit more intellectual. That might call for a new collective or not. In any case, it shouldn't be called an "Intellectual Collective."
  • Also, Bill did not say he wanted to join the Intellectual Collective; he said he was interested in organizing a discussion group on political theory.
