Nader Says "Democracy Only Works When People Show Up..."
University of Louisville gets the facts from an expert
Ralph Nader speaks... he thinks .... he has done his homework...He is committed to severe punishment for Corporate Criminals, Ending the Endless War, Universal Health Care, as well as Expansively shifting our job market to Alternative Energy Collection as Primary Resources for current combustion and non-renewable Solutions as a form of civic justice or rehab for drug users and life long education infrastructure locally and nationally.
His campaign representative takes time to preface the crowd with the idea that our country is the most demanding nation with regards to ballot accessibility on a state by state basis. He reminds us that $600 will get a candidate on the ballot in Colorado while at least 2 other states demand 50,000 signatures to even allow the candidate on the ballot.
This very Friday evening at UofL we have the pleasure of hearing what we really need to know. Nader steps up and immediately frames the American Public as not having asked enough of their political leaders. He asks, "Are we not capable of energy efficiency? Are we not capable of decent health care for all people?" It's becoming clear that he wants to know just how mad we well have to get before corporations will begin to pay their due and be asked to account for their flagrant negligent choice to ignore safety standards and clear changes which are needed for progress. He encourages the audience to look at themselves and their relations with these agencies and corporations who have a majority of congressional attention. His use of the words flummox and flattery are not poetic but rather stinging to the conscious members of his contributors in comfortable seats. What will it take for Back Home to become equal upfront Washington DC direct action politics.
He mocks the community and their humor of being interrupted from their facebook account. He reminds us that politicians collect 22% of our funds as taxes and leave us to go run around the world. He proffers the vision of what we could do with our tax money. He clearly states that folks could offer $200 a year or $200 community service hours a week to outline the Nader/Gonzolez agenda for public funding of private delivery of health care, aggressive crack down on corporate crime, end the war on drugs and increase life-long educational programs which support rehabilitation, cutting the military budget , and refuse Nuclear Power and funding of such projects which rely upon citizen dollars. He prepares his audience for collective conscious and clear standards which they can demand of either politician which might choose to build America progressively instead of continuing to be the laughing stock of the globe because controlling political parties are allowed to count the votes.
Where taxes are concerned he lets on that he will tax corporate criminals, tax multi-nation corporations who send out dollar our of our economy. He lets us know that he would like to open political debates to experts and all candidates. He lets us know that he is no stranger to the theatre of the absurd. He clearly accepts his role in our system as a response to corruption... he clearly acknowledges the only way that media has allowed him access to this election is through satire and as an entirely employment free participant in this political realm.
He makes it clear that we as a nation are fully capable of He winds out the statistics of our nation as 1 in criminal incarceration while being 17 in infant mortality rate. Instead he takes the time to explain clearly how Reagan was a buffoon by making statements like 85% of our pollution come from trees; he flames an incompetent governor from Texas who couldn't put 3 sentences together adequately. He expounds on the complete rebuke on the part of the American Bar Association with regards to the complete ruin of our legislative leaders.
He asks, "What happens to a society which surrenders its politics to only the corrupt and the more corrupt? He states, "this is where we are now..." Every 3 weeks more people die from occupational trauma and injury than our wars. More coal workers have died from work related disease than all the soldiers of WW2 put together... they gave their lives for their company and thats only one industry. Neither political candidate has made any concession or has promised to deal with industry related deaths. The press and the media spend more time worrying about an American Flag lapel pin than all the issues which are being ignored in relation to the violation of our constitution. Obama could have responded to such concerns but instead made no correlation to his commitment as a leader to the people and the constitution which the flag stands for.
Nader closes with his idea that a simple guy who got angry and collected facts was able to change the auto industry and make it safer with dash padding and seat belt design... he urges us to think what each of us can do to make things better... He encouraged us to get friends and family to visit VoteNader.org and take a different look at the current presidential campaign.
He asked, "How many of you are willing to put in 200 hours a year and $200 dollars a year. How many of you are not willing to do such work? No matter what ... just don't let your talents be trivialized... We try to make a difference and engage people in campaigns such as Mountain Top Removal and Coal Mine Health and Safety as well as other local issues because those issues are where the change in our nation is really going to make a difference."
He didn't ask, "How many people cant make a commitment to anything at all.."
