A life & death matter.

It seems trendy, in some sub-cultures, to dismiss voting.

A friend told me he thinks Marxists have promoted this damaging meme. Because they can't stand the idea of Americans participating in a system besides the one they dream of. They also hate the USA, and want YOU to believe no good can come from it.

25 miners are dead. It was a non-union mine, with a record of safety violations. There is no way in hell the owners were not friendly with The Right, and no way in hell Democrats wouldn't have worked harder to keep it safe.

Reminds me of 2 wars. Iraq: I won't get into debating that issue, but think it obvious Al Gore would not have led us there as Bush did. Vietnam: Among Republicans, only Nixon had enthusiasm for hanging around that place. Individual politicians, and voting, matter.

Here's a good article about how the Religious Right gets its way in Texas. From the New York Times Magazine.

Remember, "Americans United for Separation of Church and State" meets at Fourth Ave. Methodist Church this Thursday at noon. Bring your own lunch if you wanna eat. AU is a good mix of clergy, atheists, activists, etc. You're all welcome.

From my humble experience, what often dooms communes and other such endeavors is a climate of disrespect. I think the answer is to address it, and address it, and address it. Also, to challenge spin, and stifle rumors.

AU Meeting on the 18th

Hey all you Brickers, on February 18th, there will be an AU meeting at 4th Avenue Methodist Church (We used to meet at Carly Rae's, but it went out of business.)

AU is from, "Americans United for Separation of Church and State". One of the biggest such groups in the USA.

Come meet with us and help put a dent in the religious Right's plan to pocket taxdollars, limit reproductive freedom, weaken public education, etc., etc.

We meet at 12 noon; bring your own lunch if you want. We're a mixture of religious folks, atheists, clergy, agnostics, etc. Everyone is welcome! This will be our second meeting there since Carly Rae's went under, but I am pretty sure we'll enter on the North, rear, side of the church.
