Sharing the"Big Love"

It is 2010 and yet that time has rolled around for us to celebrate community and the love within with our 2nd Annual "Big Love" Benefit Dinner. This year the dinner will be on March 13th at the First Unitartian Church from 4pm to 6pm for the "Meet and Greet" and the dinner at 6pm to 9pm. Why do this again? Well, first of all for consistency(look up the definition,I did) and secondly to share, network and feel the love with our fellow community people. I hope this year is as great of a turn out, if even better, than last, as we all look at the big picture if not the title of the dinner itself, "Big Love", for yourself, your community service, the love for what we are doing and of course the love for the Brick House.... Patent Political Candor

Direct Democracy has something to offer BRYCC House Membership as substantive policy

Provided is a closer look at more contemporary Marxist Ideas... Larry Marx from The American Prospect that is.... The views of the author of this article are worth considering and even though some of the specific solutions offered are not that which I would agree to, the fact remains that this sort of Substantive Democratic Value

"Over the last several years, the race for money and influence and power has left the hopes and concerns of most Americans in the dust. All you see from Washington is another scandal or petty argument. And so we get discouraged. Half of us don't vote. The half of us who do vote are voting against somebody instead of voting for something. We know what fills the void: the lobbyists, the influence peddlers with the cash and connections. … They write the checks, and you get stuck with the bills."

At the 2007 Take Back America Conference, Barack Obama offered a thorough explanation of the challenges to American democracy. Now we have a political opening, a historic opp... (read and comment)

What is with the Speed Museum Curating Replicant Events to BRYCC???

Compare them for yourself and ask... Is it really a coincidence??

Wow... check this out.... the Speed Museum has gone and done it again in less than a Months time... check out how similar their proposed activities are to what we are doing.... what is up with this cheap copy of fast art crap????

This new event ( http://www.louisvillefilm.org/call-for-entries.html ) is truly odd in that it is so much like the grant written by our art collective folks that one would actually have to wonder if someone had read our grant... http://www.brickhouse.cc/story/103

Given the recent Speed?? Baloney!( http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#/pages/SPEED-BALONEY/231843093442?ref=ts ) Incident's uncanny likeness to the Small But Weird Invitational copied by the Speed Museum all in one month... http://www.facebook.com/#/event.php?eid=204152063908&index=1

Somebody somewhere is really paying attention to our ideas and handing them over to the folks at the Speed... whats up with that??? How odd... but totally human...... (read and comment)

Arrested for "Stealing" the Golden Shovel... Activism Defined?

Lessons on Civil Disobedience

As a preface to offering some decent reading worth repeating, I would just like to say that I see different kinds of Activism as social impact choices... Proactivism and Reactionism...

I do not believe these processes and applications to be mutually exclusive even though I am done ringing the dinner bell for folks to figure out that we need to act and act directly to make this world better for the next generations and for those who have less ability to help themselves or others through action.

I WILL NOT BE PURSUING DIALOGUE HERE... I WELCOME OUR DIALOGUE AS SIDE BY SIDE SUPPORT OF OUR FACILITY AS A PLACE WHERE REAL SUPPLIES ARE AVAILABLE FOR PEOPLE WHO NEED CHANGE

Managing Large Scale Annual Events with Non-Profit Resources

How to Plan and Run an Event with BRYCC as a Brick House Benefit

Given my background in working with BRYCC-Brick House and other events including the INFEST Independent Education Festival, PAZ Conference, Forecastle, and more. I can honestly say that many events can be efficiently run with as few as 5-6 key people who work together weekly and fulfill their tasks on a timeline...

I would say that there should not be one person in charge because it is ultimately designed by those who participate in the committee and specialized task forces who meet each of the needs as they arise... I do think meeting facilitators can serve as managers and also that defining a point person for task forces can quickly eliminate a need for at least 3 people to accomplish one well placed goal...

Marketing Via Fan Base or By Unilateral Engagement of Public Interest Groups with Mutual Values

Ultimately there is a 'street team' associated with any sort of outreach proceedings. My thoughts on the concept of street teams is not the modern guerilla warfare tactics that i see used to flye... (read and comment)

Be Reasonable... Demand the Impossible???

War Resisters International Remember the Creative Resolution of Social Artists.... Reposted

Look back at an experience of empowerment. I wonder if the experience now seems that it was just a passing feeling you had at the time. Back then, you or your group somehow gathered the strength to make a difference--or at least feel that you made a difference. You may have changed something permanently, but the feeling was ephemeral. It wore off. A sense of empowerment is something that needs to be recreated continually.

Forms of empowerment, whether types of activity, attitudes, styles, spread by contagion. But after a while we begin to look for improvement, some benchmark to surpass--an additional element, an innovation, or better results. A street action that is empowering the first time we participate soon begins to need something new--more people, a wider range of groups, more impact. When it becomes difficult to extend the level of social mobilization, it is a common mistake for many of us to confuse militancy for empowerment. People escalate the action hoping for similar results in terms of public ... (read and comment)

Fundraising Verses Direct Action as Sustainable Expressions of Appreciation

Asset Building or Just Sitting on Our Assets

Ok... We have had an ongoing debate and dialogue which needs to be wide open for every person's consideration and interpretation. At present, there is quite a bit of concern with some folks about fund raising and financial protocol in relation to regular expenses. I am of the mind to say, "Some money is better than no money while Documentation of Money Transactions is essential in the work we do." I am not of the mind to speak for others or to limit the paths by which we invest ourselves and our time as a diverse process of organizing and funds development in door2door outreach, community partnership along with long-range and mid-range program planning/design as a part of grant seeking and project development. The more interactive and informative our outreach and revenue stream vision is the more organic and beneficial it will be as a sustainable resource in hard times.

To make a long story short, there are plenty of solutions to our dilemma of financial stability and regular monetary support which occ... (read and comment)
