List of supporters passes 100!
I see we now have 102 names on our list of supporters!

That's a milestone. Congratulations to those who have been gathering the statements of support.

(Only 398 more to go!)

Well it all comes down to data entry...
We have lots more supporters than that... the issue is really how we manage to raise funds to pay mortgage and take the data, signatures and visitors lists to the web in a timely manner. As you can tell its usually Kathy and I going out and pulling down thousands of dollars while also running building repair and project planning and thus we look to the secretary and members of the finance and outreach committees to get that data entered and then activate our membership by calling them to let them know we have activities...

Right now we have a radio production meeting and its really not been promoted in the press or in the community with flyers at local libraries or anywhere else. The Noize collective has lots of dates coming up that need promotion to the media but unfortunately I will be at Forecastle and at the Farmers Markets teaching nutrition as art activities and while working in Community gardens so its all relative.

All and all I would say that we have plenty of supporters who arent even typed on that list such as Carla or Selena or the Sustainability Forum Folk who will be working Forecastle with our 'A Day in the Life of Sustainability' exhibit, but the reality is that they are as much involved as many of our long standing members and thus I would say our numbers and record keeping do not reflect an accurate picture. Care to come out and help us gather supporters names and then type them into the internet this weekend??

Call me or phil ardery with questions or for times... 303-2497

You are mistaken.
(A reply to creativemindsunion's reply to my original post:)

First, you are replying in July to a message I posted in December when the number of supporters in our database was indeed just over 100. The current number of supporters is always posted on our home page, and it grew from 100 to over 200 by the time you posted your reply.

Secondly, the "issue" in my post was to celebrate the growing number of names in our (then brand new) database of supporters, not to go on about who's a martyr and who's a shirker.

Thirdly, it's not the Secretary's job (or that of the nonexistent finance and outreach committees) to enter the supporters' names into the database. I specifically designed the database so the same people who gather the supporters' names can easily enter them online. (Just log in and click on the supporters link in the right hand column.) And that system appears to have worked just fine, without any autocratic division of labor.

Fourthly, you somehow find the radio production workshops relevant to my post and complain that no one is promoting them. You were one of the two people to suggest these workshops in the first place. And you have scheduled them to take place on a weekend night (when they are least likely to draw participants), downtown (outside the station's coverage area), and in a place where there's no Internet access (so we can't access the station's computer). As the organizer of these events, it is your job to publicize them. If you don't have time to publicize them, then you shouldn't organize them in the first place. We are a DIY center. DIY.

In a non-hierarchical organization it is inappropriate for one person to assign tasks to others without their consent and then criticize when these assignments are not followed.

Yes there are a lot of details that have no assigned method by which we may follow up on the accuracy of DIY work. As for a non-hierarchical organization being held accountable... it does indeed come down to board members to document and keep records with regards to membership and outreach.

Generally there are sheets on clipboards with signatures which never get entered unless someone such as the secretary follows up on the process. Finance and outreach committee time which need to be approved and proposed as assembly gatherings are designed to allow collective members to participate in our non-hierarchical management of things which must be attended to. If you do not recognize their existence then its likely that you are not supporting that the work get done...

Finance Committee time is usually the Third Sunday and Outreach is usually the Fourth Sunday... people have been meeting at those times to accomplish those tasks. Collectives can get the support they need to follow legislation assigned to non-profit management issues at these meetings.

I will contact the board to be certain that we can approve the actions and presence of these committees so that all the responsibility doesnt fall to the executive members who obviously have their hands full.

We can work these details out but even the simple acceptance that there is a time and place to share the load and distribute the tasks of a non-hierarchical management system will allow for more to get done.
